PLEASE LOOK AROUND our church on Sunday morning, and if you see some new people don’t hesitate to talk and welcome them. They are the guests in our Lord’s house and your house of worship too. Do not be afraid of language barriers; the language of love is truly universal and the most comprehensible one. 

БУДЬ-ЛАСКА, огляньте нашу церкву в неділю вранці, і якщо ви побачите нових людей, не соромтеся привітати їх. Вони є гостями в домі нашого Небесного Отця і у нашому домі молитви. Не бійтеся мовних бар’єрів; мова любові воістину універсальна і найбільш зрозуміла. 

ВИХОДИТИ З ЦЕРКВИ: Вихід з церкви до відпyсту і цілування хреста позбавляє нас благословення. Служба має початок «Благословенне Царство…» і кінець: «З миром вийдімо…» Піти відразу після Причастя, означає поставитися до церкви як до ресторану, куди ми приходимо і виходимо, як нам заманеться.

LEAVING BEFORE DISMISSAL: leaving church before dismissal deprives us of a blessing. Worship has a beginning “Blessed is the Kingdom…” and an end “Let us depart in peace…” To leave immediately after Communion is to treat the church like a restaurant where we come and go as we please.

TO CROSS OR NOT TO CROSS: Anyone who has looked around during the services will notice that different people cross themselves at different times (and sometimes even in different ways). To a certain extent, when to cross oneself is according to personal piety, and not an issue of dogma. When we cross ourselves, we engage our body in the worship; not only mind and heart. But there are times when it is specifically proper to cross ourselves and times when we should not. Here is a brief list of when to cross and when not to cross. To Cross: When we hear one of the variations of the phrase “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”; during Trisagion; at the beginning and end of the services and our private prayers; before venerating an icon, the cross, or the Gospel book; upon entering or exiting the temple; when passing in front of the holy Altar Table; when bishop or priest blesses us this cross, chalice or Gospel book. Not to Cross: At the chalice before or after taking Communion (we might hit the chalice with our hand); when the bishop or priest blesses saying, “Peace be with all” (merely bow slightly and receive the blessing).

ХРЕСТИТИСЯ ЧИ НЕ ХРЕСТИТИСЯ: Будь-хто, хто роздивлявся в церкві під час богослужінь, помітить, що різні люди хрестяться в різний час (а іноді навіть по-різному). До певної міри, коли хреститися – це за особистим благочестям, а не питання догми. Коли ми хрестимося, ми залучаємо своє тіло до богуслужіння, а  не тільки розум і серце. Але бувають моменти, коли конкретно правильно хреститися, і часи, коли не слід. Ось короткий список того, коли потрібно хреститися, а коли ні. Хреститися: Коли ми чуємо один з варіантів фрази «Отець, Син і Дух Святий»; під час Трисвятого; на початку і в кінці богослужінь, і наших приватних молитов; перед поклонінням іконі, хресту або Євангельській книзі; при вході або виході з храму; при проходженні перед святим Престолом/Царськими Вратами; коли єпископ або священик благословляє нас хрестом, чашею або Євангелієм. Не хреститися: Біля Чаші до або після прийняття Причастя (ми можемо вдарити по чаші рукою); коли єпископ або священик благословляє рукою, кажучи: «Мир усім» (просто злегка вклоніться і прийміть благословення).

ОСНОВИ православної християнської духовності: 1) віра в Ісуса Христа разом зі Його Небесним Отцем і Святим Духом; 2) щоденна молитва – вранці, вдень і ввечері; 3) Щотижневе богослужіння – недільна Божественна Літургія є обов’язковою; 4) Любов до ближнього; 5) милостиня; 6) Піст – середа і п’ятниця, неділя до Причастя; 4 багатоденних пости та певні дні, встановлені Церквою; 7) сакраментальна участь – Сповідь, Святе Причастя регулярно та інші Таїнства; 8) щоденне читання Святого Письма; 9) Освіта – катехизм, вивчення Біблії; 10) Підтримуйте Місію Церкви часом, талантами, скарбами; 11) Моральне життя і чистота – включаючи думки, слова і вчинки.

BASICS of Orthodox Christian Spirituality: 1) Belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord, God and Savior together with His Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit; 2) Daily prayer – morning, noon, and night; 3) Weekly worship – Sunday Divine Liturgy is essential; 4) Love of Neighbor – everyone is your neighbor; 5) Almsgiving – sacrificial giving to needy; 6) Fasting weekly – Wed., Fri., Sunday for communion; seasonal and certain days as prescribed by the Church; 7) Sacramental Participation – Confession, Holy Communion regularly and other Sacraments by God’s calling; 8) Reading of Scripture daily; 9) Education – catechism, Bible; 10) Support the Mission of the Church – stewardship of time, talents, treasure; 11) Ethical/Moral life & purity – including thoughts, words, and actions.
