CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING: The regular monthly meeting will be held next Sunday, May 26, during “Coffee and…”. Council members are requested to make every effort to attend this meeting.

COFFEE and…: The Strawberry Shortcake event for Mother’s Day hosted by Youth Ministry was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to everyone who donated additional treats—thank you to Meroslava Szwez for donating paska breads!! Today, Olha Mosanyuk and Tetiana Hevko are hosting Сoffee and…, and next Sunday, Olena Balatsko is hosting. We need coffee donations, please. Thank you for your continuous support!!

LIVES OF THE SAINTS: The Myrrhbearing women are those women who followed the Lord, along with His Mother. They remained with her during the time of the saving Passion, and anointed the Lord’s body was with myrrh. Joseph and Nikodemos asked for and received the Lord’s body from Pilate. They took it down from the Cross, wrapped it in linen cloths and spices, then they laid it in a tomb, and then they placed a great stone over the entrance of the tomb. According to the Evangelist Matthew (27:57-61) Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses (Mark 15:40) were there sitting opposite the sepulcher, and they saw where He had been laid. This other Mary was the Mother of God. Not only were these present, but also many other women, as Saint Luke says (24:10). Today the Church honors Saints Mary Magdalene (July 22), Mary the wife of Cleopas (May 23), Joanna (June 27), Salome, mother of the sons of Zebedee (August 3), Martha and Mary, sisters of Lazarus (June 4), and the Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, who was the stepmother of her husband Joseph’s sons James (October 23) and Joses (October 30). Today we also remember Saint Joseph of Arimathea (July 31), who was a secret disciple (John 19:38), and Saint Nikodemos, who was a disciple by night (John 3:3; 19:38).
НАВІЩО ХОДИТИ ДО ЦЕРКВИ? ПОЯСНЕННЯ #2: Куди ми хочемо піти після закінчення нашого земного життя? Небо, чи не так? Що роблять усі ті, хто вже є там? Що роблять ангели, Діва Марія і всі святі на небесах? Вони поклоняються Богу або богослужать! Наше православне богослужіння відрізняється від інших церков, включаючи ладан, співи, ікони, свічки, стояння на колінах і хресне знамення. Хтось може сказати, що наше богослужіння було винайдено якимось єпископом або групою ченців кілька століть тому. Інші кажуть, що поклоніння Новому Завіту було спонтанним. Однак реальність така, що Божественна Літургія, яку ми святкуємо в ці дні, по суті, така ж, як і Літургія християн 1-го століття. Крім того, апостоли і перші учні були євреями. Ставши послідовниками Христа, вони не винайшли якогось нового поклоніння Йому. Навпаки, вони прийняли відомі їм форми і ритуали іудейського поклоніння, і надали йому християнського характеру. Подивіться на Самого Ісуса, Він дотримувався всіх ритуалів поклоніння, включаючи пости, свята та паломництва. Божественна Літургія сягає корінням у давнє іудейське/біблійне богослужіння. Вона походить від заповідей, даних Мойсею на горі Синай самим Богом. Тому наше православне християнське богослужіння є земною складовою вічного богослужіння на Небесах. Структура та оздоблення нашого храму, а також слова, молитви, прохання та рубрики богослужінь відображають природу Небесного поклоніння. Це місце, куди ми йдемо, щоб практикувати і готуватися до вічного поклоніння на Небесах. Якщо ми не підготуємося тут, ми не зможемо зробити це там!

Saturday, May 25, at 10:00 am students and teens are invited to gather at our parish cemetery (weather permitting) to place flags on the graves of our departed veterans.
PENNIES FROM HEAVEN – Students who did not turn in their collections last week are reminded to give them to their teachers as soon as possible.
June 9 – 12:30 – 3:00 pm: End-of-school-year celebration bowling event at Laurel Lanes in Plainville. Please respond to Helen Zeleniuk immediately. All students and teens are invited.
