СЛАВА ІСУСУ ХРИСТУ! СЛАВА НАВІКИ! GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST! GLORY FOREVER! 

“LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION.” These are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ when He taught His disciples how to pray, what is now known as the Lord’s Prayer (Mt.6:9-13). In the Scriptures, the word ‘temptation’ only appears 16 times, and all in the New Testament. The dictionary defines ‘temptation’ as “to entice or allure someone to do something often regarded as unwise, wrong, or immoral.” The question then is: Can God, Who is love, lead anyone into temptation? The short answer is, of course, NO. The long one – let’s ponder… The Greek (the original language of the New Testament) word peirasmos, rendered in English with “temptation,” comes from the verb peirazo, which means “to test [hard], to probe, to prove, to put someone to trial”. The Scripture is clear: “Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted with evil and He Himself tempts no one; but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his desire.” (James 1:13-14) We nevertheless know that this life is a test, full of temptations/trials. God allows them to strengthen us. How else will we merit the eternal crown unless we become victorious over the temptations of life? We know that God sometimes subjects us to testing to lead us to salvation. Still, we know also that He does not permit us to be tested beyond our capacity, for “No temptation comes upon you, which is not common to man. But God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond your ability, but with every temptation, He provides a way to overcome it…” (1 Cor. 10:13) We do not ask God not to trick us with beguilement to make us fall into sin – that’s Satan’s work! With this prayer, we confess our weakness, that we cannot overcome with our strength alone the tests God puts in our way to strengthen us and test us like gold in the fire, but that we need His help, mercy, and grace. Temptation, as a test, strengthens us and gives us endurance and perseverance. It proves that our faith is real and substantive. God knows it, but we need to know it too, so that when the devil tries to tempt us, we will be ready to fight. As long as we are in this life, we are to expect trials and suffering. As St. Anthony the Great († A.D. 356) said, “Take away temptation and nobody will be saved.” Therefore, trials of our faith and our faithfulness to God are good! They started a long time ago with patriarch Abraham, righteous Job, and many other righteous ones. They continue to this day with each of us, as well… Glory to God for everything!!!

“НЕ ВВЕДИ НАС У СПОКУСУ”. Ці слова Господь наш Ісус Христос сказав, коли Він навчав Своїх учнів молитися, що тепер відомо як молитва Господня (Мт.6:9-13). У Святому Письмі слово «спокуса» зустрічається лише 16 разів, і лише в Новому Заповіті. Словник визначає слово «спокуса» як «спокусити або спонукати когось зробити щось нерозумне, неправильне або аморальне». Тоді постає питання: чи може Бог, Який є Любов, спонукати когось на зло? Коротка відповідь: НІ. Довга відповідь – давайте поміркуємо… Грецьке (оригінальна мова Нового Завіту) слово peirasmos, перекладене українською як «спокуса», походить від дієслова peirazo, що означає «випробовувати, досліджувати, доводити, екзаменувати когось». Святе Письмо ясно говорить: «Нехай ніхто не говорить, коли випробовується, я спокушуваний Богом; бо Бог не може бути спокушений злом, і Він Сам нікого не спокушає; Але кожна людина спокушається її бажаннями». (Якова 1:13-14). Проте ми знаємо, що це життя є випробуванням, повним тестувань і випробувань. Бог дозволяє їм входити в наше життя, щоб зміцнювати нас. Як інакше ми заслужимо вічний вінець, якщо не станемо переможцями спокус життя? Ми знаємо, що Бог іноді піддає нас випробуванню, щоб привести нас до спасіння. Однак ми знаємо також, що Він не дозволяє нам бути випробуваними понад наші можливості, бо “жодна спокуса не сходить на вас, яка не є підсилу для людини. Але Бог вірний і не дозволить вам бути спокушеним понад ваші можливості, але з кожною спокусою Він дає шлях до її подолання…» (1 Кор. 10:13). Ми не просимо Бога, щоб Він не змусити нас впасти в гріх – це справа сатани! Ми молимося цією молитвою, щоб визнати свою слабкість, що ми не можемо подолати самотужки випробування, які Бог ставить на нашому шляху, щоб зміцнити нас і очистити нас, як золото у вогні, але ми потребуємо Його допомоги, милосердя та благодаті. Спокуса, як випробування, зміцнює нас і дає нам витривалість і непорушності в вірі. Це доводить, що наша віра є справжньою і суттєвою. Бог знає це, але ми також повинні знати це, щоб, коли диявол спробує спокусити нас, ми були готові до боротьби. Поки ми живемо в цьому житті, нам слід очікувати випробувань і страждань, як сказав святий Антоній Великий († 356): «Якщо не буде спокус, то ніхто не спасеться». Тому випробування нашої віри і нашої вірності Богу є добрими! Вони почалися дуже давно з патріарха Авраама, праведного Йова та багатьох інших праведників. Вони тривають і донині у кожного з нас, також… Слава Богу за все!!
