HARVEST FESTIVAL: Many thanks to all those who baked, cooked, donated, worked, cleaned up, and attended the Harvest Festival yesterday. Thanks to all your efforts, it was a big success.

HOLODOMOR: As we conclude the month of November, which is Holodomor remembrance month, we will remember the souls of those innocent victims of the socialist terror with a special Panakhyda today. Those unfamiliar with the Holodomor in Ukraine should know that between 1932 and 1933, at least 7 million (possibly as high as 10 million) Ukrainians were starved to death in a genocide conducted by stalin’s regime. In June of 1933, an average of 30,000 people PER DAY died. Please pray for the souls of these innocent victims of socialism. ГОЛОДОМОР: Завершуючи листопад, який є місяцем пам’яті жертв Голодомору, ми згадаємо душі невинних жертв більшовицького терору спеціальною поминальною панахидою сьогодні. Ті, хто не знайомий з Голодомором в Україні, повинні знати, що між 1932 і 1933 роками щонайменше 7 мільйонів (можливо, навіть 10 мільйонів) українців були заморені голодом під час геноциду, проведеного сталінським режимом. У червні 1933 року помирало в середньому 30 000 українців на день. Будь ласка, помоліться за душі цих невинних жертв соціалізму.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE NATIVITY FAST: This fast’s Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are Strict Fast days. On these days, we abstain from meat, dairy, fish with backbones, fowl, alcoholic beverages, and olive oil. Tuesdays and Thursdays of the fast are Wine and Oil days. On these days, the fasting discipline is relaxed a bit to permit wine and olive oil. On Saturdays and Sundays of the fast, it is Fish, Wine, and Oil days. On these days, the fast is relaxed even further to permit fish with backbones, as well as wine and oil. However, the Eve of the Feast, December 24, is always kept as a Strict Fast day. Permitted daily foods are vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and shellfish. Please remember that abstaining from food during this preparation period does us no good if we do not also, as St. John Chrysostom teaches us, fast with: ”… the eye and the ear and the feet and the hands and all the members of our bodies.”

ЗАГАЛЬНІ НАСТАНОВИ ЩОДО РІЗДВЯНОГО ПОСТУ: Понеділок, середа та п’ятниця цього посту є днями суворого посту. У ці дні ми утримуємося від м’яса, молочних продуктів, риби з хребтом, птиці, алкогольних напоїв, та олії. Вівторок та четвер дисципліна посту трохи пом’якшується, щоб дозволити вино та олію. Субота та неділя піст послаблюється ще більше, щоб дозволити рибу з хребтом на додаток до вина та олії. Однак переддень свята, 24 грудня, завжди є днем суворого посту. Продукти, які дозволені в усі дні – це овочі, фрукти, зернові, горіхи та молюски. Але, пам’ятаймо, що утримання від їжі в цей період не принесе нам ніякої користі, якщо ми також, як навчає нас святитель Іоанн Златоуст, не постимо: «… оком, вухом, ногами, і руками, і всім тілом.»

UOL and Sisterhood: On Sunday December 7th we will have a small reception in the church hall after the St. Nicholas Program in church!! We are asking everyone who is able to make and donate a dessert for this event! Suggestions of items are cookies, brownies , cupcakes, bars,!! Thank you in advance for your support!

Classes will be held today. They will also be held next Sunday, November 30, the Sunday after Thanksgiving and will be dismissed, as usual, at noon. A Typyka service will be held that day instead of Divine Liturgy so there will be no Сommunion.

Happy birthday to Jacob who will be celebrating the event in the coming weeks. 

Congratulations to the following classes who will be celebrating their patron saints in the coming weeks: Nov. 30 – Grade 2 – St. Andrew; Dec. 4 – Grade 8 – St. Barbara; Dec. 6 – the Church School – St. Nicholas

Schedule for St. Nicholas program rehearsal: (December 6) 9:00 am Divine Liturgy; 10:30 am Rehearsal for St. Nicholas program; 12:30 pm Pick up for children in K – grade 3; Lunch for students grade 4 and above, teens and young adults to decorate church hall, Christmas trees and making gifts for shut-ins. 3:30 pm Pick up of all students.

It is understood that all children who have participated in previous rehearsals will be present for the December 6 rehearsal and will participate in the December 7 program.

Confession schedule – December 14 – grades 4-8; December 21 – teens and young adults

The annual toy collection sponsored by the Church School for disadvantaged children in the Greater New Britain area is going on now through December 14. Please leave your new, unwrapped toys in the collection boxes in the church hall foyer and sign a star on the Nativity icon.
