ARTOS is a leavened bread blessed at the end of the services on Easter Sunday in the Orthodox Church. The significance of the Artos is that it reminds all Christians of the events connected with the Resurrection of Christ. After His Resurrection, the Lord appeared to His disciples more than once, ate before them, and blessed their meals. After the Lord ascended to Heaven, His disciples and other followers often met for common prayer and to partake of Christ’s Body and Blood. When they sat down to an ordinary meal (Agape) after the prayer services, they would leave a place at the head of the table empty for the invisibly present Lord and lay a loaf of leavened bread (Artos) on that place. It is customary to keep a portion of the Artos throughout the year and partake of it in times of illness or distress with a drink of Holy Water.
АРТОС — це квасний хліб, освячений наприкінці служби у Великодню неділю в Православній церкві. Значення Артоса полягає в тому, що він нагадує всім християнам про події, пов’язані з Воскресінням Христа. Після Воскресіння Господь неодноразово з’являвся Своїм учням, їв перед ними і благословляв їхню трапезу. Після вознесіння Господа на Небеса Його учні та інші послідовники часто збиралися для спільної молитви та участі в Тілі і Крові Христа. Коли вони сідали за звичайну трапезу (Агапе) після молитовних служб, вони залишали місце на чолі столу порожнім для невидимого присутнього Господа і клали на це місце буханець заквашеного хліба (Артос). Прийнято зберігати частину Артоса протягом року і вживати його у разі хвороби чи страждань зі святою водою.
CEMETERY Christmas Decorations and spring cleanup: Please remove all Christmas arrangements by March 31. If not removed, they will be removed by the cemetery committee. Please clean up dry and overgrown vegetation around headstones. Any unmaintained headstones will be cleaned at the cemetery committee’s discretion. Water will be turned on mid to late April, pending a repair to the water system.
