FAST of the Apostles starts tomorrow. It’s only 14 days long, till June 29. Let’s try to use this time for learning Apostolic teachings, prayer and fasting. This is also a very appropriate time to go to Confession for those, who receive Communion regularly (every Sunday).
РROPER CHURCH ATTIRE: As hot summer days are approaching, please keep in mind that our Orthodox temple is a sacred place to worship God with reverence and modesty. Please, consider that when you dress to come to church.

CAN ORTHODOX Christians celebrate a “Pride” month? In short, NO… According to Orthodox teaching, “pride” is the source of all sins. Pride is selfish, disobedient, and self-righteous. No wonder the first person to exercise pride was the devil, who, being the closest angel to God, rebelled against his Creator. So, we should ask ourselves this month: What are we really celebrating? Should we, Christians, teach our children that pride is good and needs to be celebrated every year in June? Is pride not a sin anymore? Is sexual immorality ok now?.. As Orthodox Christians, we should counter the celebrated vice of pride with often-scorned virtues of humility and true love… If we love our neighbors as ourselves, we will try to do what is best for them. Can anything be better than Heaven and eternal life with our Loving Creator? Of course, not! So, we should humbly remind ourselves and those, who are involved in certain lifestyles that: “… neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the Kingdom of God.” (1 Cor. 6, 9-10) It is out of Christian charity that we should pray during this month of “pride”, that all God’s children may “be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth” (1 Tim. 2, 4). It’s out of our Christian duty that we must remember the words of St. Paul: “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret… Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Eph. 5, 11-17)
WHY GO TO CHURCH? Reason #1: Because we are made to worship: We are all spiritual in that we have a soul, we are all religious in that we show reverence, love, and devotion through ceremonial prayer to the things our soul considers sacred. To deny one or the other or both is to deny the very essence of who we are, as humans. We are made in the image and likeness of God. The first four commandments are related to the spiritual, religious worship of God. 1) I am God, don’t have any others; 2) No idols; 3) Do not use Lord’s name in vain; 4) Remember Sabbath and keep it holy. God knows us. He made us. If we do not worship the God of the Bible, the Father with His Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit, then we will worship something or someone else. That’s an idol. We go to Church to fulfill who we are, to do what we were made to do. Could anyone honestly say I am a student and not attend school?
