CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING: The monthly meeting will be held next Sunday, May 4, during “Coffee and…” in the parish hall. Council members are requested to make every effort to attend this meeting.

BLESSING OF THE GRAVES: Fr. Andrii will be available at St. Mary’s Cemetery TODAY, at approximately noon for the Paschal blessing of the graves. Please plan accordingly.

FLOWERS AND LINENS COMMITTEE would like to thank everyone who generously donated to our yearly Easter Flower collection. Thanks to your generosity, we collected a record sum of $2235. The list of donors is posted at the church entrance. The money collected will help to beautify our church all year long. P.S. Fr. Andrii and the Parish Council would like to thank our Flowers Committee (Pani Matka Joan Szwez, and Oksana and Maria Szwez) and Fr. Tony for doing a fantastic job beautifying our church for Pascha.

FR ANDRII, Pani Matka Oksana, and Christopher would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all who sent them beautiful cards with heartwarming and delightful Pascha wishes. May God bless you! Thank you!

THE EUCHARISTIC Fast is a very important part of the Orthodox discipline that we practice prior to receiving Holy Communion. It involves prayerful preparation and total abstinence from any food or drink in the morning (from midnight) prior to receiving the Eucharist. All adults and children, who had their first Confession, must adhere to these rules unless there is a medical condition.

Coffee and… Hosting coffee and… today is Melissa Josefiak. Thank you for your continuous support!

LIGHTING of the candles in the Orthodox Church is a very ancient, pious tradition, which has been observed for thousands of years. However, there are specific times during services (especially Divine Liturgy) when this tradition should be practiced. Please light your candles before reading the Apostle to avoid distractions and commotion. Otherwise, you can do it at the end of the services.

ARTOS is a leavened bread blessed at the end of the services on Easter Sunday in the Orthodox Church. The significance of the Artos is that it serves to remind all Christians of the events connected with the Resurrection of Christ. After His Resurrection, the Lord appeared to His disciples more than once, ate before them, and blessed their meals. After the Lord ascended to Heaven, His disciples and other followers often met for common prayer and partaking in Christ’s Body and Blood. When they sat down to an ordinary meal (Agape) after the prayer services, they would leave a place at the head of the table empty for the invisibly present Lord and lay a loaf of leavened bread (Artos) on that place. It is customary to keep a portion of the Artos throughout the year and partake of it in times of illness or distress with a drink of Holy Water.
