LENTEN SERVICES will be offered daily this first week of Great Lent. This is a particular time of the year for every Christian. It calls for a renewed commitment to a more vigorous spiritual life. Try to attend as many of the services as you possibly can. They will be offered both in the morning and in the evening. Please refer to the SCHEDULE OF LENTEN services.
MEMORIAL SATURDAYS: Saturday memorial services to remember the souls of our departed loved ones will begin on Saturday, March 23. If you wish to have them remembered, envelopes to list the names are available at the church narthex. Please give your commemorative lists to Father Andrii. Come and pray for the souls of your departed loved ones; they need it. Please note that Lent begins TOMORROW!
PASKAS: We will be baking paskas for the Easter Festival this Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21. We need volunteers at 10:00 a.m. daily to shape and bake the bread. We need 2 gal of whole milk, 4p of butter, 4 (5p) bags of sugar, and 1 box of raisins. Any monetary donations are also welcome to defray the cost of ingredients! (We will also be baking later in April for Orthodox Easter, MAY 5)
ВИПІЧКА ПАСОК: У цю середу, 20 березня, та четвер, 21 березня, ми будемо випікати паски для Великоднього фестивалю. Нам потрібні волонтери, починаючи з 10:00 ранку кожного дня. Нам знадобиться 2 галони молока, 4 фуити вершкового масла, 20ф цукру та 1 ящик родзинок. Будь-які грошові пожертви також вітаються, щоб покрити вартість інгредієнтів!
EASTER FESTIVAL is one of our major fundraisers, so please volunteer your help to prepare for it and plan to attend. PLEASE PICK UP FLYERS AND POST WHEREVER YOU CAN. Please wear traditional Ukrainian embroidered outfits. If you are interested in helping out during the festival, please let Natalia Kyrychenko and/or pani matka Joan Szwez know. Also, a clean-up crew is needed in the kitchen at 2 pm.

GENERAL REGULATIONS on fasting during Great Lent: Categories of Foods – Category I: Meat and Meat Products (includes beef, pork, chicken, etc., as well as items which have animal gelatin, lard, etc.); Category II: Dairy Products (includes butter, eggs, milk, cheese, etc., as well as items containing dairy whey, milk extracts, etc.); Category III: Fish, but not shellfish such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.); Category IV: Olive Oil (according to some, this would extend to all oils) and Wine (which includes all alcoholic beverages) Foods Permitted throughout Lent: Shellfish (such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.), Vegetables and Vegetable products (including grains [rice, wheat, flour, pasta {non-egg pasta}, etc.] vegetable gelatins, etc.), fruits and nuts. Weekdays during Lent: Abstinence of Categories I, II, III, & IV. No Abstinence of shellfish, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. During this period, we should regulate the amount of food we consume and the frequency of eating. No food should be eaten between meals, and smaller quantities than usual should be eaten at mealtime. Saturdays and Sundays during Lent (*except Great Saturday on which a strict fast is kept) abstinence of Categories I, II & III. No abstinence of Category IV. The quantity and frequency of meals on Saturdays and Sundays during the Great Fast are not restricted. Feast of the Annunciation (March 25) and Palm Sunday – Abstinence of Categories I, II. The quantity and frequency of meals on these Great Feasts of the Church are not restricted.
ЗАГАЛЬНІ ПОЛОЖЕННЯ про споживання їжі під час Великого посту: Категорії продуктів харчування – Категорія I: М’ясо та м’ясні продукти (включає яловичину, свинину, курятину тощо, а також продукти, які містять тваринний желатин, жири тощо); Категорія II: молочні продукти (включає вершкове масло, яйця, молоко, сир тощо, а також продукти, що містять молочну сироватку, молочні екстракти тощо); Категорія III: риба, але не кальмари, креветки, краби, устриці, молюски, мідії тощо; Категорія IV: Оливкова олія (на думку деяких, це поширюється на всі олії) і вино (яке включає всі алкогольні напої) Продукти, дозволені протягом усього Великого посту: молюски (такі як кальмари, креветки, краби, устриці, молюски, мідії тощо), овочі та овочеві продукти (включаючи зернові [рис, пшениця, борошно, макарони {макарони без яєць] тощо], рослинні желатини тощо), фрукти та горіхи. Кількість і частота трапез у ці великі церковні свята не обмежені.
LET IT BE LIGHT project to improve lighting in our temple needs your help! Our church lights (recess lights in the sealing) are ancient, energy-consuming, and pose a fire hazard due to overheating. Recently, we received a quote from an electrician who can upgrade them for $1,800. Please donate! Fr. Andrii will answer any questions.
E-MAIL LIST: We would like to decrease our postage costs by emailing for church communications where possible. A signup sheet will be available in the hall to assist with this effort. We need only your name and email address. Thank you for your cooperation in helping our parish cut costs.
BAKE SALE: We ask everyone to make a baked item from scratch to donate to our bake sale table. Our top sellers are loaf pan cakes, individual pastries, and fruit pies. All homemade items are welcome. Please bring them to church on Friday, March 22, between 4 and 6 PM or Saturday before 8:30 AM.

TODAY, all parish children are invited to our annual pre-Lenten party in the church hall after Church School is dismissed. Pizza and a make-your-own-sundae event will be served.
