CONFESSION is an important part of our Lenten journey. Every Orthodox Christian must go to Confession during Lent to receive Holy Communion on Pascha and remain in good spiritual standing as an Orthodox believer. Father Andrii is available to hear confessions before or after any of the Lenten services. СПОВІДЬ є важливою частиною Великого Посту. Кожен православний християнин/ка повинен/на посповідатися під час Великого посту, щоб мати можливість прийняти Святе Причастя на Пасху і бути в доброму духовному стані як православні віруючі. GENERAL REGULATIONS on physical fasting during Great Lent: Categories of Foods – Category I: Meat and Meat Products (includes beef, pork, chicken, etc., as well as items which have animal gelatin, lard, etc.); Category II: Dairy Products (includes butter, eggs, milk, cheese, etc., as well as items containing dairy whey, milk extracts, etc.); Category III: Fish, but not shellfish such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.); Category IV: Olive Oil (according to some, this would extend to all oils) and Wine (which includes all alcoholic beverages) Foods Permitted throughout Lent: Shellfish (such as lobster, shrimp, crab, oysters, scallops, clams, mussels, etc.), Vegetables and Vegetable products (including grains [rice, wheat, flour, pasta {non-egg pasta}, etc.] vegetable gelatins, etc.), fruits and nuts. Weekdays during Lent: Abstinence of Categories I, II, III, & IV. No abstinence from shellfish, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. During this period, we should regulate both the amount of food we consume and the frequency with which we eat. No food should be eaten between meals, and at mealtime, smaller quantities than normal should be eaten. Saturdays and Sundays during Lent (*except Great Saturday on which a strict fast is kept) abstinence of Categories I, II & III. On Saturdays and Sundays during the Great Fast, the quantity and frequency of meals is not restricted. Feast of the Annunciation (March 25) and Palm Sunday – Abstinence of Categories I, II.
ЗАГАЛЬНІ ПОЛОЖЕННЯ про тілесний піст під час Великого посту: Категорії продуктів харчування – Категорія I: М’ясо та м’ясні продукти (включаючи яловичину, свинину, курятину тощо, а також продукти, які містять тваринні жири, тощо); II категорія: Молочні продукти (включають масло, яйця, молоко, сир тощо); Категорія III: риба, але не молюски, такі як кальмари, креветки, краби, устриці, молюски, тощо); Категорія IV: Оливкова олія (на думку деяких, це поширюється на всі олії) і вино (яке включає всі алкогольні напої). Confession Schedule: All Orthodox Christians are expected to go to Confession during Great Lent. The following is the schedule for the Church School students and teachers, and the Youth Ministry: March 22 – Grades 4 and 5; March 29 – Grades 6, 7, 8, teens, and young adults. Lenten Confession is required to receive Communion on Pascha.
“Pennies from Heaven” – Each year, our Church School students participate in a Lenten almsgiving activity, “Pennies from Heaven”. This year’s recipient will be the Maple Leaf House, a charity home in the small village of Stoyaiv in the Lviv region. It is a caring home for girls ages 6-18. Some of them are orphans. Some have parents who cannot take care of them because of alcohol or drug problems, or have been physically abused. Please see any Church School student to make a donation. This activity will continue through April 19. We are blessed to have an anonymous donor matching the children’s collection this year.
