MEMORIAL SATURDAYS: Saturday services to remember the souls of our departed parishioners and friends will begin on Saturday, February 28.  If you wish to have your loved ones remembered, envelopes for listing names are available at the church entrance. Please give the completed envelope to Father Andrii. Great Lent begins February 23.

The 2026 UOL Essay Contest has been announced. Topic ideas for the 2026 essay contest: Pre-K and Kindergarten: Please draw a picture of the Garden of Eden, and do not forget the Special Apple tree. Grades 1 and 2: Please draw a picture of Moses in the basket hidden in the tall grass by the river, and write two to three sentences on why it was so important that Moses be kept safe. Grades 3 and 4: In John 13:34-35, please write 50 to 100 words explaining your answer. Grades 5 and 6: When we say the Lord’s Prayer, we ask for is protection. In which lines of the Lord’s Prayer do we ask Him for protection, and why is it important for us to do that? Using your teachings as an Orthodox Christian, please write 75 -150 words explaining your answer. Grades 7 and 8: Romans 12:12 Using your teachings as an Orthodox Christian, explain what these words mean to you. Please write 150 -200 words to explain your answer. Grades 9 and 10: When we say The Lord’s Prayer, we say “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.” As Orthodox Christians, what do we understand these words to mean? Please write 200 – 275 words explaining your answer. Grades 11 and 12: Hebrews 11:1 –  what have you learned about faith and hope? (Hint: Keep reading the rest of Hebrews 11) Please write 250 to 500 words explaining your answer. Adults: Is there a connection between our beliefs as Orthodox Christians and Environmental Stewardship? Please write 500 or more words explaining your answer. UOL: Thank you for supporting the Souper Bowl Luncheon on 2/1/2026. We raised $796. All money from Luncheon has been sent to St. Andrew’s Society!! St. Andrew’s Society helps all those in need in Ukraine!! Special thanks to the soup makers, we had 11 different soups to try! Soup cooks – Irene Blumes, David Bouchard, Dale Bailly, Joan Kerelejza, Teresa Linck, Maryann Simmons, Joanne Szwez, Helen Yawin, Peter and Helen Zeleniuk!! Thank you, Anna Gulko, for making dessert!!  Thank you for supporting the raffle! Winners were – Matvii, Arsen, and Hryhorii!!

SAVE THE DATE: Our Easter Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 28. We are planning to hold a pysanky-making workshop on March 24, if we don’t have to postpone the Festival. More information later.

 

YOUR LEGACY: Please remember to include St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in your estate plans.  Take time to reflect on the faith, relationship, and joys you have found by being part of this Church.  Consider naming the Church as a beneficiary in your Will, as the Church always welcomes your gifts, whether given now or in the future.

TODAY – Classes will be held.

Fr. Andrii will bless the candles of the First Confession students at the end of Liturgy.  The students will carry the candles at the solemn Divine Liturgy on May 31, the day following Confession.  These students are:  Damir Muryn, Peter Protsanyn, Anthony Sambat, and Artem Vitrykush.

Many thanks to Carol Synnott for her $25 donation to help defray postage costs for mailing Sunday bulletins to shut-ins. 

Happy birthday to Gabriella, who celebrated her birthday yesterday.  May God grant Gabriella, the First Confession students, and Carol MANY BLESSED YEARS!  MNOHAYA LITA!

NEXT SUNDAY, February 22 – the annual Youth Ministry Pre-Lenten party will be held in the church hall from noon to 2:00 pm (after Church School classes).  All parish children, teens, and young adults are welcome.  There will be pizza and make-your-own-sundaes.
