It primarily addressed the heresy of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Arianism\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arianism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(producing the original version of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Nicene_Creed\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nicene Creed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and set a universal pattern for calculating the date of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Pascha\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pascha<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The council was summoned by the Emperor St.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Constantine_the_Great\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constantine the Great<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who desired unity in the Empire and thus called the Church&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Bishop\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bishops<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0together to settle the raging\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Heresy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heresy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Arianism\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arianism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the doctrine that\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Jesus_Christ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesus Christ<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0was a created being and therefore not truly the one God. The First Council of Nicea assembled on\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/May_20\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May 20<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 325. Besides the question of Arianism, the First Ecumenical Council also addressed a number of other concerns. Of particular note is the matter of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Paschalion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paschalion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the method for the calculation of the celebration of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Pascha\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pascha<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Up to this point, there had been a number of different methods for determining Pascha&#8217;s date, but at Nicea the bishops assembled there chose to accept the Alexandrian practice of making a calculation independent of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Judaism\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jewish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Passover\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passover<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stipulating also that the Paschal celebration had to follow the vernal equinox. Holy Fathers also confirmed the Canon of Scriptures (The Bible) and adopted many other laws\/canons that govern the Orthodox Church to this
