Thank you for your continuous support of coffee and\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHY GO TO CHURCH? <u>Reason #1<\/u>:<\/strong> Because we are made to worship: We are all spiritual beings in that we have a soul, we are all religious in that we show reverence, love, and devotion through ceremonial prayer to the things our soul considers sacred. To deny one or the other or both is to deny the very essence of who we are, as humans. We are made in the image and likeness of God. The first four commandments are related to the spiritual, religious worship of God.\u00a01) I am God, don\u2019t have any others; 2) No idols; 3) Do not use Lord\u2019s name in vain; 4) Remember Sabbath and keep it holy. God knows us.\u00a0 He made us.\u00a0 If we do not worship the God of the Bible, the Father with His Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, then we will worship something or someone else.\u00a0That\u2019s an idol. We go to Church to fulfill who we are, to do what we were made to do. Could anyone honestly say I am a student and not attend school?<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHY GO TO CHURCH? <u>Reason #<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>2<\/u><\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>Where do we want to go after our life on earth ends? Heaven, right? What does everyone, who is already there, do? What do the angels, the Virgin Mary, and all the Saints do in Heaven? <u>They worship God!<\/u> Our worship is different from other churches including incense, chanting, icons, candles, standing, kneeling, and making the sign of the cross. Some might say that our worship was invented by some bishop or group of monks a few centuries ago. Others say that New Testament worship was spontaneous. However, the reality is that the Divine Liturgy we celebrate these days is essentially the same, at its core, as the Liturgy of the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century Christians. Moreover, the Apostles and first disciples were Jews. When they became followers of Christ, they did not invent some new worship of Him. Rather, they took the forms and rituals of the worship they knew (Judaic worship) and gave it a Christian character. Look at Jesus Himself, He observed all the rituals of worship including fasts, feasts, and pilgrimages. Divine Liturgy is rooted in ancient Judaic\/Biblical worship. It came from the same commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai by God Himself. Therefore, our Orthodox Christian worship is the earthly component of the eternal worship in Heaven. The structure and decoration of our temple (church building) along with the services&#8217; words, prayers, petitions, and rubrics reflect Heavenly worship\u2019s nature. It\u2019s where we go to practice and prepare ourselves for the eternal worship in Heaven. If we don\u2019t prepare ourselves here, we won\u2019t be able to do it there!<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHY GO TO CHURCH? <\/strong><u>Reason #3<\/u>:<strong><em> <u>One Christian is no Christian:<\/u> <\/em><\/strong>We cannot be a follower of Christ in isolation. We must be connected to THE community of Faith &#8211; The Church (the Ecclesia); otherwise, how will we know, if our faith is true and real? St. Paul\u00a0says in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7: <em>\u201dThere are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit;\u00a0<sup>5<\/sup>and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;\u00a0<sup>6<\/sup>and there are varieties of working but it is the same God who inspires them all in everyone.\u00a0<sup>7<\/sup> To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. <\/em>He continues in\u00a0verse<em>\u00a0<sup>12<\/sup>\u00a0For just as the body is one has many members, and all the members of the body, though many are one body, so it is with Christ.\u00a0<sup>13<\/sup>\u00a0For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body &#8211; Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, and all were made to drink on one Spirit.\u00a0<sup>14<\/sup>\u00a0For the body does not consist of one member but of many.<\/em>\u00a0After the analogy of the human body to emphasize the importance of all parts, he summarizes his point in\u00a0verse\u00a0<em><sup>26<\/sup>If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.\u00a0<sup>27<\/sup>\u00a0Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.\u201d<\/em> When we say, I don\u2019t need to go to church, we are also saying, I don\u2019t need the Body of Christ (in either form, spiritual or the Holy Communion). We are saying I know everything that I need to know to get to Heaven. We are saying I don\u2019t need any help from you churchgoers.
